What are the main landmarks in Tallulah-North Shore?

Tallulah-North Shore holds four city parks. North Shore Park runs down to the Trout River at the top of Pearl Street, named on the 1915 plat and carrying a boat landing, a walking trail, and stone benches. Signet Park stands on the same bank and took its name from Signet Street, which had been Silver Street.

Rolliston Park lays a long lawn beside a tree-lined canal draining into the river. Tallulah Park is the inland one, bought by the city in 1935, with tennis courts and a baseball diamond at Tallulah Avenue and Vermillion Street.

What is the history of Tallulah-North Shore?

Tallulah-North Shore began as farmland, lumberyards, and naval stores works along the Trout River. Jeremiah Fallausbee platted an area he called Tallulah in 1879, betting on growth that did not arrive, and a yellow fever epidemic through the 1880s left the ground thinly built for a generation. The Great Fire of 1901 changed that.

Jacksonville rebuilt and pushed north past Springfield, and a second plat in 1915 laid out North Shore across the peninsula between the Trout River, Moncrief Creek, and Rolliston Creek. The city annexed the whole area in 1925.
