Beds are few on the plateau. Sammamish took its charter in 1999 and grew as housing rather than as a town with a centre, so the practical question is which edge suits the trip: the Lake Sammamish side, the Snoqualmie Valley side, or the Eastside beyond either of them. Golf settles it for some.
Sahalee Country Club draws players who want no more than a short drive to the first tee, and the ground around it stays quiet in a way that little else within King County manages. Bellevue is the fallback with rooms. The Bellevue Arts Museum, KidsQuest Children's Museum and Bannerwood Park lie over that way, and a base there opens the whole Eastside while leaving the plateau close behind.
Seattle is the other answer. Twenty miles separate the two, near enough that a city stay still allows a morning at Cougar Mountain Zoo or an afternoon at Remlinger Farms, though the driving mounts up over a week spent that way. If you are calling at the Microsoft Visitor Center or playing at Sahalee Country Club, take the plateau; anything broader is better served from the city.

The charter dates from 1999. That leaves Sammamish among the youngest cities in King County, and much of the place follows from the fact: the street pattern is planned rather than grown, and the buildings on the heritage list are considerably older than the municipality that now lists them. The Brandes House, the Fullard House and the Adair House are the clearest of those pieces, and Overlake Christian Church belongs to the same layer of settlement on the plateau.
