Where you stay on Queen Anne depends on which half you pick. Lower Queen Anne, the flat quarter around Seattle Center, puts you steps from the Space Needle and the Museum of Pop Culture, and it holds most of the hotels and nightlife. The crest, Upper Queen Anne, stays quiet and residential.
A room near Kerry Park trades bars for a skyline view. Beds thin toward the top, so many visitors base in downtown or Belltown instead.

What are the main landmarks in Queen Anne?
Most of the district's draw clusters at Seattle Center, where the Space Needle rises beside the Pacific Science Center, the Museum of Pop Culture, and the Seattle Children's Museum. Kerry Park caps the south slope. Along the Lake Union shore sit the Museum of History & Industry, the Center for Wooden Boats, and Northwest Seaport, with the Olympic Sculpture Park down on the Elliott Bay waterfront.
The residential streets keep a set of landmark houses, including the Ballard-Howe House, the William Parsons House, and the modernist Egan House. Older congregations left the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church behind.
What is the history of Queen Anne?
Wealthy families settled the hill early. They raised mansions whose Queen Anne architecture gave the neighborhood its name, among them the Ballard-Howe House and the William Parsons House. To climb the steepest grade, early streetcars ran on underground counterweights, and the lower run of Queen Anne Avenue North has been called the Counterbalance ever since.
The flats at the southern foot changed the most, hosting the 1962 Century 21 Exposition that raised Seattle Center. The fair left the Space Needle and the Pacific Science Center behind.
Where is Queen Anne?
Queen Anne Hill rises between Elliott Bay to the west and Lake Union to the east, its neighborhood draped over the crown and slopes. Belltown and downtown lie just south across Denny Way. North, beyond the Lake Washington Ship Canal, is Fremont.
Queen Anne Avenue North climbs the hill as the main spine, steepest along the stretch long called the Counterbalance. Interbay divides the district from Magnolia.
