Schloss Eggenberg sets the terms. Beds close to the palace park suit visitors who came for its galleries and the long formal grounds, with the district's quieter residential streets running back from the wall. The eastern strip is different.
Pressed against Lend and Gries, it shortens the walk into central Graz and keeps the calmer lanes around Christuskirche and the Schutzengelkirche for anyone who would rather sleep away from the through-roads.

What are the main landmarks in Eggenberg?
Three of the Universalmuseum Joanneum's collections sit inside Schloss Eggenberg: the Alte Galerie, the Münzkabinett, and the Archaeology Museum Schloss Eggenberg, all within one walled park. The Kernstockwarte also falls to Eggenberg. Churches do the rest, Christuskirche, the Schutzengelkirche, the Vierzehn-Nothelfer-Kirche and the Allerheiligenkirche all stand inside the district, while the Schulschwesternkirche belongs to the convent of the Franciscan School Sisters of Graz and the old Schutzengelkirche building has passed to a parish hall and nursery.
What is the history of Eggenberg?
The name came before the district. Schloss Eggenberg and the House of Eggenberg carried it first, and the ground around the palace took it afterwards, so that when Graz numbered its districts the fourteenth arrived already named for a dynasty and its seat. Everything else here grew around that fact.
Christuskirche and the Schutzengelkirche, the Vierzehn-Nothelfer-Kirche and the Allerheiligenkirche, together with the convent of the Franciscan School Sisters of Graz, form the ecclesiastical layer that the district inherited along with its name.
Where is Eggenberg?
Lend and Gries adjoin Eggenberg on the east, and the ground climbs west to the Plabutsch, the mountain that closes this side of Graz.
