What are the main landmarks in Eggenberg?
Three of the Universalmuseum Joanneum's collections sit inside Schloss Eggenberg: the Alte Galerie, the Münzkabinett, and the Archaeology Museum Schloss Eggenberg, all within one walled park. The Kernstockwarte also falls to Eggenberg. What is the history of Eggenberg?
The name came before the district. Schloss Eggenberg and the House of Eggenberg carried it first, and the ground around the palace took it afterwards, so that when Graz numbered its districts the fourteenth arrived already named for a dynasty and its seat. Everything else here grew around that fact.
Christuskirche and the Schutzengelkirche, the Vierzehn-Nothelfer-Kirche and the Allerheiligenkirche, together with the convent of the Franciscan School Sisters of Graz, form the ecclesiastical layer that the district inherited along with its name.
