What is the history of Landstraße?
Landstraße carries a deep past. Settlement here reaches back about eight centuries, and in 1192 the English king Richard the Lionheart was seized in the Erdberg neighbourhood on his way home from the Third Crusade. The district took its modern shape in the nineteenth century.
The Erdberger Pfarrkirche and the Bezirksmuseum Landstraße keep that long memory, and the palaces of the Belvedere mark the age when the court built beyond the walls.
