The two roads are the frame. Cabula sits between the BR-324 and the Avenida Luís Viana Filho, the road most people call the Avenida Paralela, which puts it on the fast way in and out of Salvador rather than anywhere near the coast. The Iguatemi district is close.
That is where the shopping and the offices are, and the bairro shares a boundary with every other bairro of central Salvador, so nothing here is far from anything else. Beds are in the city proper.

What are the main landmarks in Cabula?
The orange groves left their name behind. Cabula was a district of chácaras growing oranges into the 1940s, and the laranja-da-baía takes its name from the bay whose hinterland these slopes are. One patch of forest survives.
The Mata do Cascão is the green ground left inside the bairro after the building of the 1970s onward. The rest is estate housing. Large popular housing schemes were put up by the state from the 1970s, and property capital has been reshaping the bairro since, which is why the streets read as several different decades laid over one another.
What is the history of Cabula?
Four processes made this bairro. The first was the forming of quilombos here in the colonial period, which ran to the 19th century and is the oldest layer of settlement on the ground. Farming came second.
Chácaras and fazendas growing oranges held the area until the 1940s, and that is the phase the name laranja-da-baía belongs to. The state came third. Large popular housing schemes were built here from the 1970s onward, which is what turned an agricultural fringe into a dense part of the city.
Property capital came fourth and is the most recent. It is the process still working on the bairro, and between them the four explain a fabric that has no single period to it. The administration has changed too.
Cabula falls under the Prefeitura-Bairro Cabula and Tancredo Neves, where the earlier scheme had put it in Administrative Region XI.
