What are the main landmarks in Tsawwassen?
Working structures make the list. Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, built in 1959 and reached along a 3 km causeway across the shallow bank, is the one nearly everyone passes through on the way to Vancouver Island. Two more sit close.
Boundary Bay Airport handles training flights along with local aeroplane and helicopter service, while the Roberts Bank Superport works the shore nearby, and neither is the sort of monument a visitor photographs.
What is the history of Tsawwassen?
The terminal dates from 1959. BC Ferries built Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal to carry foot passengers and motor vehicles from the Lower Mainland to the southern part of Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands, which is the work that gave this peninsula its role. Geography forced the causeway.
Because Tsawwassen touches a shallow bank, the terminal had to be pushed to the southwestern end of a 3 km causeway running out into the Strait of Georgia, well clear of the residential streets behind it.
