Gibson House anchors the list. The other name recorded here is St. John's, York Mills, and the two together make up the neighbourhood's entire heritage register. Yonge Street does the connecting.
Its corner with Sheppard Avenue held the store and post office that started the settlement, while Highway 401 runs along the southern boundary of Lansing-Westgate.
What is the history of Lansing-Westgate?
The post office made it a place. A store and a few other services at the corner of Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue were enough for Lansing to be designated a postal village, and it later merged with Newtonbrook and Willowdale under the Willowdale name inside the Township of North York. Toronto absorbed North York in 1998.
The City of Toronto labels it Lansing-Westgate for neighbourhood planning purposes.
Where is Lansing-Westgate?
Yonge Street sets the eastern limit. Highway 401 runs below, Bathurst Street closes the west, and Burnett Avenue marks the northern stop.
