What is the history of North York?
North York took shape in 1922. That was the year the township was carved out on the northern flank of the growing Toronto, long before the modern district absorbed the farms and the settler houses that still stand across it. Before the borough of 1922, these northern fields were worked as farmland.
The land north of York and Old Toronto filled slowly with settlement around homesteads such as the Gibson House and the William Robinson House, and only later did the residential borough rise across the old fields.
