Zürich (Kreis 8), Zürich — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Kreis 8 is the Zürich district also called Riesbach, taking in Seefeld, Mühlebach and Weinegg along the Lake Zürich shore.

About Zürich (Kreis 8)

Where to stay in Zürich (Kreis 8)

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Kreis 8 puts rooms near water. Seefeld, Mühlebach and Weinegg divide the district between them, and the parks strung along the Lake Zürich lakefront are what a stay here is generally for, rather than proximity to the museum core of Zürich. Medical institutions occupy part of it too.

About Zürich (Kreis 8)

What are the main landmarks in Zürich (Kreis 8)?

Riesbach carries an outsized art list. The Pavillon Le Corbusier and the Johann Jacobs Museum sit on it beside the Kunsthalle Zürich, the North America Native Museum and the studio kept as the Atelier Hermann Haller, which together account for most of what visitors come into Kreis 8 to see. Churches and a stone round it out.

The Erlöser Zürich, the First Church of Christian Science, the Kirche Balgrist and the Rudolf-Koller-Gedenkstein appear alongside the Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich and the Zurich Tram Museum.

What is the history of Zürich (Kreis 8)?

Riesbach stood on its own until 1893. The independent municipality on the Lake Zürich shore was incorporated into the city that year, and its three quarters, Seefeld, Mühlebach and Weinegg, have carried their older names inside Kreis 8 since. The name Riesbach outlived the merger.

Parks laid out along the lakefront and the major medical institutions the district holds belong to a later phase, when Riesbach became one of the built-up parts of Zürich rather than a separate commune on the water.

Where is Zürich (Kreis 8)?

Kreis 8 covers 4.81 square kilometres of lakefront Zürich, the district of Riesbach that runs along Lake Zürich.
