Huadu District (花都区) is an outer district of Guangzhou, in Guangdong, spread across the northern reaches of the city.

About Huadu District

Where to stay in Huadu District

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Huadu District sits well out from the centre of Guangzhou, so where you sleep depends on what pulls you here. Rooms cluster around the district's own core. Others gather near the transit links that tie Huadu back to the wider city, and travellers changing planes tend to base themselves close to the airport edge of the district within easy reach of the terminals.

Those chasing the sights of central Guangzhou often bed down in the inner districts instead. From Huadu the metro and expressways carry you south toward Baiyun District and the older heart of the city. Stay north, ride in.

About Huadu District

What are the main landmarks in Huadu District?

Huadu District keeps few of Guangzhou's headline monuments within its own bounds. Its ground runs mostly to housing, factories and market streets rather than the temples and towers that draw crowds to the inner city. The showpieces sit elsewhere.

Most of Guangzhou's famous sights cluster far south of here, a metro ride away through Baiyun District toward the river districts. Come to Huadu for its own workaday rhythm, its markets and its transport links, and save the touring for the older core of Guangzhou. The district earns its place as a gateway node, not a sightseeing stop.

What is the history of Huadu District?

Huadu began as its own county well beyond the built-up edge of Guangzhou. The city's outward push changed that. As Guangzhou grew across Guangdong through the late twentieth century, the surrounding county-level land was drawn steadily into the municipality until Huadu was reorganised as a full district of the city.

The old county seat carried its markets and its name through that shift. The district now holds its place in the northern belt of Guangzhou, tied to neighbours such as Baiyun District and Conghua District along the same expanding frontier of the metropolis.

Where is Huadu District?

Huadu District covers roughly 968 square kilometres of low plain and hill across the northern edge of Guangzhou, in Guangdong, bordering Baiyun District to its south and standing well north of the inner boroughs like Yuexiu District.
