The Wujing edge is quieter. It faces the Huangpu River, away from the noise.

The Huangpu River is Minhang District's defining line. Its water bounds the Wujing strip on the east, marking the old edge of the district before the merger with Shanghai County. Jiangchuan Road runs inland from there.
That road anchors the historic Jiangchuan Road Subdistrict, the compact core around which the wider suburban district of Shanghai first took shape and later spread across the land it holds.
What is the history of Minhang District?
Minhang began small. The original district was drawn from present-day Jiangchuan Road Subdistrict and the eastern strip of Wujing along the Huangpu River, a modest suburban foothold of Shanghai. Then the map changed.
In 1992 the surrounding Shanghai County merged into Minhang, folding a broad reach of farmland and townships into what had been a narrow riverside district and giving it the wide shape it carries across the land now.
