Flensburg keeps the hotels. Friedheim is a settlement quarter of houses and gardens, and what it offers a visitor is the Twedter Plack for shopping, the woods toward Glücksburg for walking, and the Solitüdefest in summer. Nature protection covers Twedter Feld.
The open field became Flensburg's first and only nature reserve in 2003, after the old shooting range beside it was built over and named the Asmus-Jepsen-Weg. A room here means a ride into the city.

What are the main landmarks in Friedheim?
The Twedter Plack is the centre of Mürwik. It grew at the northern end of the street Friedheim in the early 1960s and took over that role from the older village ground. Flat roofs mark the newer streets.
Edgar Asmussen of Weding designed the houses at Wacholderbogen 16 and at 45 and 47, working after a visit to America under the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright's landscape-related approach. One of them won a state prize. Wacholderbogen 16 took the Schleswig-Holstein interior minister's award for landscape-related building in 1972, and two white tower blocks from the same years still show from a distance on the Osterkoppel and the hill by the Eichenkratt.
What is the history of Friedheim?
Twedter Holz and Twedt came to Flensburg in 1910. The nucleus of Friedheim lies where the street Am Bauernhof branches off the street Friedheim, because a farm stood there that had belonged to Hartwig Samuelsen since about 1831. His descendant sold the land.
Peter Samuelsen let the surrounding Samuelsen fields go in the 1910s to torpedo fitters from the Marineschule and to the city, which parcelled them and sold them on to members of the Kleinsiedlungsgenossenschaft Friedheim without taking a profit. Building started in 1919. State subsidies paid for the first houses of the new Siedlung Friedheim, which carried some of the ideas of the Flensburg garden-city movement, and the street Friedheim was named on 23 August of that year.
The cooperative went bankrupt after 1929. Its settlement kept growing anyway, and the Samuelsen farm itself came down in 1984, leaving only the street Am Bauernhof, named in 1957, to remember it.
