What is the history of Altstadt?
Count Adolf IV of Holstein founded Kiel between 1233 and 1242 on a former peninsula of about 18 hectares, and that ground is the Altstadt, so the quarter and the city share one founding. Names do the work. A castle, a monastic foundation and a parish church, Kiel Castle, the Kieler Kloster and St. Nikolai, anchor the quarter, with the Warleberger Hof holding the Stadtmuseum.
