About Comillas
What are the main landmarks in Comillas?
Torre Praga, on the calle Antonio López, is the tallest building in Comillas. The Plaza de las Monjitas, where Eduardo Marquina meets Inmaculada Concepción, is the heart of a shopping area at the centre of the barrio. The calle Marqués de Jura Real runs down to Santa María de la Cabeza past gardens and shops, ending along a distinctive wall.

What is the history of Comillas?
On the ground of the present parque de Comillas, Manuel Azaña held a rally in 1935 that some accounts put at nearly half a million people. After the Civil War, in the 1940s, the area, then part of the municipality of Carabanchel Bajo, was built up by political prisoners in forced-labour battalions. The press of the day called their penal detachment the Comillas concentration camp.
The park opened in 1979 after a long neighbourhood campaign.
