About Lucero
What are the main landmarks in Lucero?
Lucero's oldest marks are its roads. The Paseo de Extremadura follows the Camino de Móstoles, already drawn on Pedro Texeira's map of Madrid of 1656, and the calle Sepúlveda traces an old railway to the towns south-west of the capital. In the 19th century the ermita de San Miguel de Luche stood here, shown on a map drawn for Napoleon's army in 1808, and brick kilns lined the Extremadura road.
What is the history of Lucero?
Lucero was dry farmland for cereals in the early 19th century, and irrigated estates such as the Convento Huerta de Castañeda and the Quinta de Caraque later grew vegetables and kept dairy cows. Housing spread over the poorer fields in the 20th century, and after the war the State built homes for workers, most from the south and south-east of Spain. Line 6 reached Lucero in 1995.
