Where to stay in Na Rovella

The practical side of choosing where to sleep.

Na Rovella is a residential barrio, and a bed here buys reach rather than atmosphere. Avinguda dels Germans Maristes is the spine, the longest street inside the boundary, and it takes the traffic on nights when the Pabellón Fuente de San Luis has something on. The nearest rail is the Quatre Carreres stop, about 220 metres southeast of the edge.

Line 10 of Metrovalencia opened in 2022. From the middle of the barrio the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias lies under a kilometre east, and the ground is flat the whole way, so that walk costs nothing in effort.

About Na Rovella

What are the main landmarks in Na Rovella?

One landmark, and it is not a small one. The Pabellón Fuente de San Luis, La Fonteta in ordinary speech, opened in 1983 at Avinguda dels Germans Maristes 16 with nine thousand seats. Valencia Basket played its home games there from the 1987-88 season until 2025, and the hall also served Ros Casares Valencia and two futsal sides.

Training rooms for judo and fencing sit behind the main court. Roig Arena, the far larger hall that took over in 2025, is not in Na Rovella: the municipal barrio map puts it 129 metres southeast, in Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. Valencia's structural heritage catalogue records nothing at all inside the barrio, and its closest listed item is the church of Nuestra Señora de Monteolivete.

That church stands 21 metres outside.

What is the history of Na Rovella?

The barrio's name comes from the Acequia de Rovella, the irrigation channel that crosses its ground on the way to Nazaret. That channel is one of the eight under the Tribunal de las Aguas de Valencia, the court that sits at noon each Thursday outside the cathedral and was inscribed by UNESCO as intangible heritage in 2009. Ruzafa lost its independence in 1877. Until that year this ground belonged to the municipality of Ruzafa, and the annexation carried it, with the rest of Quatre Carreres, into Valencia.

The Grupo Vicente Mortes was projected in July 1971 and finished in April 1976, with 1,200 flats and 84 shops: nine blocks of fifteen storeys, fourteen of twelve and five of four. The padrón has fallen by a third since 1991.

Where is Na Rovella?

Na Rovella covers 54 hectares of flat huerta plain in the southeast of Valencia, boxed in by named neighbours on every side: En Corts and Monteolivete to the north, Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias to the east, Fuente San Luis to the south, Malilla to the west. Density runs to 138.7 people per hectare. The Acequia de Rovella still crosses the ground toward Nazaret, though the land it waters has shrunk to a few fields out by En Corts.

Carrera de la Fonteta de Sant Lluís runs through the middle.
