Canal Road splits the choice. West of it, the Morrison Hill Road slope climbs quietly toward Happy Valley, and the buildings there are older, lower, and largely residential, so rooms come at a slower pace than the shopping streets deliver. East of it, Percival Street runs straight into the Causeway Bay retail crush.
Either address is a Wan Chai address on paper. The two sides of Canal Road feel different on foot, and that difference, more than any distance, decides which half of Bowrington suits a given trip.

What survives of the name itself is administrative: the Wan Chai District Council keeps a constituency called Ngo Keng, and its lines still trace roughly the ground the old quarter covered.
What is the history of Bowrington?
Bowrington is the older name. The name covered the strip between the hill behind Morrison Hill Road and East Point, and Cantonese speakers have always called that same patch Ngo Keng. Older Hong Kong locals paired it with neighbouring Happy Valley and spoke of the two together as one quarter.
The pairing has faded. Administratively the ground fell to the Wan Chai District Council, which is why Bowrington is so often mistaken for a slice of Wan Chai or a western fringe of Causeway Bay.
