Travellers who want the quieter end of Tseung Kwan O New Town, with the walk to the water and the sports halls close by, take rooms on the Hang Hau side rather than deeper into Sai Kung.

What are the main landmarks in Hang Hau?
Hang Hau has no monument to show. What it has is municipal and heavily used. Hang Hau Sports Centre stands on the reclaimed ground in the middle of the area, and three more public halls lie within easy reach across Tseung Kwan O: Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre, Po Lam Sports Centre, and Tsui Lam Sports Centre.
Courts, pools, and gyms fill the evenings.
What is the history of Hang Hau?
The ground here was made, not found. Hang Hau Village and Shui Bin Village held this stretch of shore first, and most of the land the area stands on was reclaimed from the water in front of them when Tseung Kwan O New Town was built out. The older village name carried over to the new district.
What had been a waterfront edge became the inland side of a planned town, and the eastern limit of that town is where Hang Hau sits within Sai Kung.
Where is Hang Hau?
Flat reclaimed ground runs from the old shoreline of Hang Hau Village out to the water, closing the eastern end of Tseung Kwan O in the New Territories.
