Kuk Po keeps no hotel strip. Village ground runs along the south shore of Starling Inlet, so the practical bases are the new town of Fanling-Sheung Shui inland and the built-up quarters of Hong Kong further in. Luk Keng lies west along the same water, the nearest settled approach on foot. Choose it if you want the shortest walk in.

What are the main landmarks in Kuk Po?
Starling Inlet is the landmark here. The water cuts into the north-eastern New Territories, and Kuk Po holds its southern shore, so the outlook from the village ground is of Sha Tau Kok on the far bank. No monument crowns this shore.
What the walk gives instead is the inlet, with Luk Keng and Nam Chung strung west along the same waterline.
What is the history of Kuk Po?
Village ground came first here. Kuk Po grew as one of a line of settlements on the south side of Starling Inlet, with Luk Keng and Nam Chung following the same water westward and Sha Tau Kok holding the far bank. Growth in the North District went elsewhere.
When the new town of Fanling-Sheung Shui rose inland, the building work of the district followed it there, and the inlet villages kept the shape they already had.
