Kwan Tei keeps no hotel strip. Rooms in this corner of the New Territories are scarce, so most visitors book in the Fanling new town a short way south and come out for the day, which leaves the lanes here to the people who live on them. Luen Wo Hui, on the Fanling side, puts shops and cooked food at the door. Walkers bound for Lau Shui Heung use the same base, and so do people heading across to Lung Yeuk Tau.

What is the history of Kwan Tei?
Kwan Tei is placed, not dated. What survives is a name and a position: an area of the New Territories set down between Lung Yeuk Tau on one side and Lau Shui Heung on the other, its place fixed by neighbours rather than by any charter or civic centre of its own. Planned building later raised Fanling into a major new town across the ground to the south, while the North District came to frame the whole cluster of settlements around it.
