Beds in New Kowloon divide along Boundary Street, with the older grid of Sham Shui Po District to the west and the redeveloped ground around Kai Tak East Sports Centre to the east. Kwun Tong District carries the newer towers, while Wong Tai Sin District spreads under the hills toward Lion Rock. Rents fall further inland.
Travellers who want the ridge walks of Beacon Hill and Tate's Cairn, with the whole width of Kowloon City District below them, do better here than beside the harbour.

Public sport fills the ground floor here. Morse Park Sports Centre, Ngau Chi Wan Sports Centre and Po Kong Village Road Sports Centre serve the estates of Wong Tai Sin District, while Kowloon Bay Sports Centre and Kai Tak East Sports Centre sit over the flat reclaimed ground to the south. Fa Yuen Street Sports Centre works the market blocks.
Ho Man Tin Sports Centre and Cornwall Street Squash and Table Tennis Centre round out a set that reads like an inventory of how a dense district plays.
What is the history of New Kowloon?
Boundary Street drew the line. The name marks everything that lay beyond the old Kowloon, a band of ground reaching north from that street until the slopes of Eagle's Nest, Beacon Hill and Lion Rock close it off. Administration later broke the same ground into Kwun Tong District and Wong Tai Sin District, together with northern parts of Sham Shui Po District and Kowloon City District.
The older name outlived the boundary it described.
