Pak Sha O sits on the Sai Kung North side of the water, and Tai Po New Town is the district's de facto administrative centre and its built-up ground, which makes it the practical base for a day given over to the peninsula. Tai Mei Tuk and Plover Cove sit on the district's mainland side.
That side suits you if country ground matters more than a street of shops and a short walk back to the built-up centre.

Sai Kung North keeps no monument. What the exclave offers instead is ground: the village sites of Pak Sha O, the water of the Tolo Channel closing the peninsula off from Tai Po proper, and the offshore reach of Sai Kung North, which runs out to islands such as Grass Island and Ping Chau. Those islands belong to the same Tai Po District, which reaches them across the Tolo Harbour from its own mainland ground.
What is the history of Pak Sha O?
The address arrived from across the water. No founding date attaches to Pak Sha O, and the village enters the record through Sai Kung North, the exclave that Tai Po District carries on the far side of the Tolo Channel and the Tolo Harbour. Tai Po District itself, one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong in the New Territories, grew around older market ground. Tai Po Kau Hui stood north of the Lam Tsuen River and Tai Po Hui on Fu Shin Street to the south, both drawn into Tai Po New Town, the centre that administers the villages of Sai Kung North.
