Ships worked this water long before the theme park. Penny's Bay served as a port from the Ming dynasty onward, a sheltered notch on the Lantau Island shore used by coastal traffic for centuries. Then the engineers arrived.
Reclamation squared off the inlet and raised a platform of new land, on which the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort was laid out along with Inspiration Lake and the road and rail links that reach it.
