Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Beds sit inland from here. Tai Long Wan sits out on the peninsula's east coast, well away from the district's built-up end, which leaves the choice between a town base and a new-town one. Sai Kung Town carried the district's administrative centre before the move, and it remains the older of the two places worth a night.
Tseung Kwan O took the Sai Kung District Office and holds the built-up part of the district.

What are the main landmarks in Tai Long Wan?
No monument marks the bay. Tai Long Wan runs about three kilometres across the east coast of the Sai Kung Peninsula, and the surf that reaches it is what most people come for rather than any building. Sai Kung District keeps the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark within the same boundary.
Over 70 islands lie off the district's shore. Little of that ground has been built on, which is how Sai Kung earned its name as the back garden of Hong Kong.
What is the history of Tai Long Wan?
No founding date attaches to the bay. Tai Long Wan enters the record through Sai Kung District, one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, whose line gathers the southern half of the Sai Kung Peninsula, the Clear Water Bay Peninsula and a strip of land east of Kowloon. Rural villages across that ground have held on to older customs.
The administrative centre shifted once: Sai Kung Town kept it until the Sai Kung District Office was relocated to Tseung Kwan O, the built-up end of the district.
