Aberdeen, immediately east, carries most of what passes for accommodation at this end of Hong Kong Island, and a room there leaves Tin Wan within a walk along the shore. Kellett Bay and the Wah Fu Estate close the western side, where housing blocks rather than hotels fill the slope.
Guests who plan their days around courts and pools can weigh the Aberdeen Sports Centre against the Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre. Neither is far.

What are the main landmarks in Tin Wan?
The list runs to sports halls. Yue Kwong Road Sports Centre takes its name from a street rather than a neighbourhood, and the Aberdeen Sports Centre and the Aberdeen Tennis and Squash Centre add a public gym and indoor courts on the Aberdeen side of the boundary. Two more sit further out.
Ap Lei Chau Sports Centre and Wong Chuk Hang Sports Centre close the roll near Tin Wan. Nothing here is a monument.
What is the history of Tin Wan?
Tin Wan entered the map of Hong Kong as an area, not a town. No charter dates it. Its outline was set by what surrounds it: Aberdeen on the eastern side, with Kellett Bay and the Wah Fu Estate closing the western edge where blocks took the slope running down to the shore of Hong Kong Island.
Public halls followed. The Yue Kwong Road Sports Centre and the Aberdeen Sports Centre stand for that later civic building rather than for anything older.
