What are the main landmarks in Tsing Lung Tau?

The name means head of the green dragon. Hong Kong Dragon Garden accounts for most of what the area lists as built heritage, and a Tin Hau Temple on Castle Peak Road was standing here before 1889, long before the estates arrived. Dragon Beach is gone. Reclamation for the widening of Castle Peak Road took the last of the long sands in 2006, and the Tsing Lung Tau Ferry Pier near the Lung Yue Road junction marks where the shoreline used to run.

What is the history of Tsing Lung Tau?

Farmland and beaches came first. Three villages hold the older thread here, Tsing Lung Tau Tsuen, Tsing Lung Tau San Tsuen and Yuen Tun Tsuen, and the area is still a recognised village under the New Territories Small House Policy. Private housing followed the road.

Lung Tang Court was finished in 1982 and the blocks of Hong Kong Garden went up between 1986 and 2010, while reclamation in 2006 for the widening of Castle Peak Road removed the last of the long beaches and the small farmlands behind them.

Where is Tsing Lung Tau?

Sham Tseng adjoins to the east and Tai Lam lies west, leaving Tsing Lung Tau a ribbon of coast pinned between Castle Peak Road and the sea.
