Nothing in Wang Toi Shan itself reads as a place to book, so the practical choice runs between staying close to the Pat Heung villages and taking a room nearer Kam Sheung Road, the rail station that puts the rest of Hong Kong within reach. Shek Kong sits just south, close enough to walk on a cool morning. Yuen Long, further west, carries the ordinary rooms.

Wang Toi Shan holds no monument of its own. What draws people is the ground around it: Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden climbs the slope to the east, Tai Mo Shan rises beyond it, and the ridge of Kai Kung Leng closes the northern side. Tai To Yan marks the eastern rim.
The airfield at Shek Kong is the one flat, engineered thing in a basin otherwise given over to villages and fields.
What is the history of Wang Toi Shan?
The written record for Wang Toi Shan is thin. It survives mainly as a name, one settlement among the cluster that Pat Heung gathers together, on the floor of the basin between Kai Kung Leng and Tai Mo Shan, where villages and their fields were the whole of the place. Two later layers sit over that.
The military ground at Shek Kong is one, and the railway that reaches Kam Sheung Road is the other, each pulling the valley closer to the rest of Hong Kong.
