About Wo Che
What are the main landmarks in Wo Che?
Wo Che keeps its meaning in its names. Sheung Wo Che marks the upper settlement and Ha Wo Che the lower, a split fixed long before the ground beside the water was made. Reclamation did the rest.
Flat land taken back from the Shing Mun River sits between the old village and the channel, and the walk down to that bank from either half is a short one.
What is the history of Wo Che?
Wo Che was a village before anything else. Its two halves split the ground between them, Sheung Wo Che taking the upper side and Ha Wo Che the lower, a distinction older than any of the roads and housing blocks that later filled the Sha Tin floor around them. Then the river was reclaimed.
Land won from the Shing Mun River pulled Wo Che into the built fabric of Sha Tin, and a village that had sat between Fo Tan and the older core to the south became one named area among many.
Where is Wo Che?
Between Fo Tan to the north and proper Sha Tin to the south, Wo Che runs from higher inland ground down to reclaimed land at the Shing Mun River.
