Okhla is a mixed industrial and residential locality in the south-east of Delhi. It stretches toward the Yamuna and the boundary with neighbouring Noida, rather than sitting among the capital's monument core. The area is known less for sightseeing than for its factories, workshops and the public grounds of the DDA Netaji Subhash Sports Complex. Few travellers stay here.

For monuments, museums and a fuller choice of rooms, central Delhi is the better base. Quiet nights are the trade-off.

Okhla lay at the rural edge of Delhi, by the Yamuna, before the built-up city reached this far south-east. Industry and housing filled the ground through the twentieth century, giving the district its working character. Its two public landmarks came later.
The DDA Netaji Subhash Sports Complex was developed by the Delhi Development Authority as a municipal recreation ground, while the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden rose across the river as a memorial to Dalit social reformers. Both belong to the modern city rather than the old one.

Okhla occupies the eastern flank of Delhi, where the built-up city gives way to the Yamuna and its wide floodplain. The Yamuna forms its edge. Beyond the river lies Noida, and just across the water sits the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden.
Within the National Capital Territory of Delhi, roads and rail lines thread the area rather than one obvious high street.
