Fatimanagar is a neighbourhood of Wanowrie, not a hotel district. Its lanes run between the Pune-Solapur highway on the north and the Pune Cantonment on the west, so a bed here sits beside the Fatima Convent grounds and Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital rather than along a run of guest houses. The NH 65 begins at Pune.
Visitors wanting a hotel row go north into Koregaon Park or east along that road into the Hadapsar business parks.

What are the main landmarks in Fatimanagar?
Fatimanagar keeps institutions rather than monuments. The Fatima Convent, generalate of the Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima, gave the neighbourhood its name, and Inamdar Multispeciality Hospital stands in the same few streets. A Christian graveyard and the State Reserve Police Force ground take up much of the open land along its edges.
The Pune-Solapur highway closes the northern boundary of the neighbourhood. Shinde Chhatri, the domed memorial to Mahadji Shinde, stands south-west, and St. Patrick's Cathedral sits beside Empress Garden north-west, past the Pune Cantonment edge.
What is the history of Fatimanagar?
Fatimanagar is named for a congregation that reached Pune in 1951. Msgr. Francis Xavier Kroot founded the order at Bellary in 1893 as the Missionary Sisters of St. Francis Xavier, and on 16 July 1951 its generalate and novitiate moved to Poona, where Bishop Andrew D'Souza had it re-christened the Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima.
Bellary lies far south in Karnataka. The convent still holds the generalate, and the quarter around it, between Wanwadi gaothan and the Poona Cantonment, carries the Fatima name.
