Shaniwar Wada is why anyone comes to this ward. The palace stands at the northern end of Shaniwar Peth on the eastern bank of the Mutha, Appa Balwant Chowk and its bookshops sit partly inside the same ward, and the rest of the old city is within walking distance in every direction. Rooms are in the newer city.

What are the main landmarks in Shaniwar Peth?
Shaniwar Wada took two years to build. Bajirao I moved the Peshwa administration from Saswad to Pune in 1728 and began the palace that year, and it was finished in 1730 at the northern end of the ward above the river. The Omkareshwar temple stands on the Mutha bank.
Dakshin-mukhi Maruti and Gupchup Ganpati are the other two.
What is the history of Shaniwar Peth?
The ward is older than its name. Under Muslim rule the ground was called Murujabad, and Shaniwar was one of the six peths Pune already had before Bajirao I arrived, alongside Kasba, Raviwar, Somwar, Mangalwar and Budhwar. The ghat on the Mutha served as a cremation ground until 1971.
