Where to stay in Gorakhpur
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Where you stay in Gorakhpur turns on the temple or the lake. The streets around the Gorakhnath temple keep the shrine, the bazaars, and the Gita Press within a walk, and staying downtown suits anyone here for the temple. The pilgrims fill the lanes.
Sadhus gather at the math. Out toward the lake and Kushinagar, the town gives way to the Ramgarh lakefront, the green Terai fields, and the road to the Buddhist shrine. A room by the lake trades the streets for the still water, the quiet gardens, and the road east to Kushinagar.
The Terai runs flat for miles. Stay downtown for the temple, or by the lake for the quiet. The temple city sits on the eastern Terai.
