Montecalvario is the Naples quarter along via Toledo, taking in Piazza Carità and the northern end of the Quartieri Spagnoli.
About Montecalvario

Where to stay in Montecalvario
Where you base yourself shapes the visit — here's the character of each area.
Piazza Carità is the obvious anchor. Beds along via Toledo put the Royal Palace of Naples, Castel Nuovo and San Francesco di Paola within about ten minutes on foot, and the Quartieri Spagnoli begin at the monument to Salvo D'Acquisto. Sant'Anna di Palazzo stands nearby.
Hotels concentrate on the via Toledo frontage, while apartments and guesthouses fill the narrow Quartieri Spagnoli lanes.
About Montecalvario
What are the main landmarks in Montecalvario?
The list here runs long. Castel Nuovo, the Royal Palace of Naples, San Francesco di Paola and the Church of San Ferdinando sit at the downtown end of via Toledo, and Castel Sant'Elmo, the Certosa di San Martino and Parthenope are counted among the quarter's landmarks as well. Museums fill in behind.
Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano, the Coral Jewellery Museum, the Naples National Archaeological Museum and the Secret Museum hold the collections, while Santa Chiara, Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, Santa Maria di Costantinopoli and San Lorenzo Maggiore account for the churches.
What is the history of Montecalvario?
The Spanish built this quarter. Historic buildings raised under the Spanish Viceregal in the 16th century still stand along via Toledo, among them the house that held the Nunzio apostolico, ambassador of the Holy See to Naples, and the home of Giambattista della Porta. Piazza Carità sits at the centre of it.
The whole area forms part of the Historic Centre of Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the monument to Salvo D'Acquisto standing at the northern end of the Quartieri Spagnoli.
