Kuromon is housing with a commercial edge. Clinics, banks, and small shops line the Meiji-dōri along the northern boundary and the old Karatsu Kaidō where it crosses the town, while the streets between them are residential. The subway runs beneath. Tōjinmachi Station sits at the corner shared by Kuromon, Tōjinmachi, Jigyō, and Imagawa, which puts Tenjin a few minutes away.

What are the main landmarks in Kuromon?
The old Karatsu Kaidō passes through Kuromon and cultural properties survive along it, which is unusual for a district this size. Two watercourses mark the edges. The Kuromon River drains Ōhori Pond along the eastern boundary, and the Komo River on the west is culverted now, leaving only the Yanabashi stone marker at the roadside to say where it ran.

What is the history of Kuromon?
The name is a gate. A gate of Fukuoka Castle stood at the foot of the bridge across the Kuromon River, and the district took its name from it long after the gate itself had gone, which is how a castle that no longer reaches this far still names the ground. The present town boundaries date from the address reform of 1963.
Where is Kuromon?
Kuromon lies in the north-west of Chūō-ku, a short way west of Tenjin. Tōjinmachi adjoins it north across the Meiji-dōri, Ōhori Park east, Ōhori south, and Imagawa west, with the Kuromon River and the culverted Komo River marking the eastern and western edges. It is a small district.
