For a central address Ōhori is remarkably quiet. The city's plan classes it as a low and mid-rise residential zone and it is used almost entirely for housing, yet Tenjin lies only a short way east and three subway stations sit within walking distance. The park is the draw. Ōhori Park adjoins the district on two sides, with the Fukuoka Art Museum on its edge.

Ōhori Park and the Fukuoka Art Museum are the district's neighbours and its reason for being known at all. Within the town itself the buildings are domestic, with the Ōhori Seibo kindergarten and the Fukuoka College of Business among the few institutions. No public primary or middle school stands here.
Children go to Minami-Tōjin or Tōnin instead.
What is the history of Ōhori?
The name means the great moat. Ōhori takes it from the water that Ōhori Park was laid out around, and its own history is domestic rather than eventful, the ground has been residential throughout, and the city's master plan keeps it that way, protecting the low-rise character and pushing commercial use onto the arterial frontage instead.
Where is Ōhori?
Ōhori occupies the north-western corner of Chūō-ku in Fukuoka, a short way west of Tenjin. Kuromon lies north. Ōhori Park wraps the district along its northern and eastern sides, with Ropponmatsu south, Kusagae south-west, and Torikai and Imagawa beyond that. Three subway stations serve it from outside the boundary: Tōjinmachi and Ōhorikōen on the airport line, and Ropponmatsu on the Nanakuma line.
