The district runs east to west between river and road. The Tama closes it on the north and national route 409 on the south, with the first chome at the west end and the third at the east. Hotels stand at the eastern end.
The Tokyu REI hotel and a business village serve the research campus, and three parks give the housing some open ground. Daishibashi and Kojimashinden are the nearest stations.

What are the main landmarks in Tonomachi?
King Skyfront took the name in 2011. The western part of the third chome was sold to the urban renaissance agency, land readjustment began in 2010, and the ground has been built up as a life-science research district since. Four institutions arrived in six years.
The Central Institute for Experimental Animals came in 2011, the Johnson and Johnson Tokyo Science Center in 2014, and the National Institute of Health Sciences and PeptiDream in 2017. A bridge crosses to Haneda. The Tama Skybridge opened in 2022 between the third chome and the airport on the far bank.
A primary school dates from 1949.
What is the history of Tonomachi?
Tonomachi was split off from Daishigawara in 1965. It was created with a first and a second chome that year, a third was added in 1967, and parts of Suzuki-shinden, Haneda, Daishigawara and Haneda-ryoshimachi were absorbed in 1969. A car plant filled the eastern end.
Isuzu began work at its Kawasaki factory in 1938, and the plant took up most of the third chome until production moved to Fujisawa and Tochigi by 2004. The site was sold in halves. Yodobashi Camera bought the eastern part and opened a distribution centre there in 2005, and the urban renaissance agency bought the western part.
Redevelopment was made official in 2002. The Kawasaki Tonomachi and Daishigawara area was designated an urban renaissance emergency development area that year, which is what set the rebuilding of the factory ground going.

Tonomachi lies in the north-east of Kawasaki ward near the mouth of the Tama river, bounded by the Tama to the north and national route 409 to the south, with the Tama canal and Ukishima beyond its eastern end.
