In the last century Jinhae grew as a naval town on the bay, and its streets were planted with the cherry trees that bloom there each spring. A new city was planned. In our own age the country laid out Changwon as a model industrial city, drawing the machine works and the factories to the bay.
The old towns joined in. In time Masan and Jinhae were brought into Changwon, and it grew as a great city of the south coast, keeping its bay, its works, and its blossoms. The cherry trees still bloom.
