What are the main landmarks in Åssida?

Åssiden kirke marks the borough. The church and the small Åssiden kapell anchor this north-western part of Drammen, with playing fields at Åssiden Idrettspark and the grounds of Berskog Idrettspark nearby. The central river quarters of Bragernes and Strømsø lie a short way east, and Strømsgodset sits just to the south-east.

What is the history of Åssida?

Åssida grew into the largest of Drammen's boroughs. The north-western ground beyond the river quarters of Bragernes and Strømsø filled steadily with housing as the city expanded outward. A parish formed around it, and the borough gained its own church and chapel, Åssiden kirke and Åssiden kapell.

Both still mark its heart. Sport and open ground shaped the borough too. Åssiden Idrettspark and the grounds at Berskog Idrettspark gave the growing population room to play, set among the streets that climb away from the centre toward Strømsgodset. As the largest borough of Drammen, Åssida holds a sizeable share of the city within Drammen kommune in Buskerud county.
