The district suits you if your visit ties to the old fortifications, the Sackheim Gate and the King's Gate, or to the low streets that run out toward the former Devau airfield past the Kronprinz Barracks.
Moskovskiy Prospekt carries traffic through the northern edge.

Liep wears its old defences openly. The Sackheim Gate and the King's Gate still frame the eastern approach into Kaliningrad, and the earthworks of the Grolmann Bastion and the Kronprinz Barracks trace the ring that once closed the city, while the outlying Fort I in Kaliningrad guards the road beyond. Its churches read the same layers, from the Sackheim Church and the Kalthof Church to the surviving walls of the Kreuzkirche.
The old Kaliningrad Devau Airport lies to the east. Brick and rampart set the tone.
What is the history of Liep?
Liep grew as an eastern suburb of Königsberg, outside the medieval core. Gates marked its edge. The nineteenth-century defensive ring gave it the Sackheim Gate, the King's Gate, and the Grolmann Bastion, with the Kronprinz Barracks quartering the garrison that held them and the Kaliningrad Devau Airport later opening the sky to the east.
Its congregations built the Sackheim Church and the Kalthof Church, and the Friedenskirche served the newer streets. The district passed with Königsberg into Kaliningrad.
