The brick Gothic church stands on Kant Island as the resting place of Immanuel Kant, drawing visitors from across Kaliningrad and far beyond the borough itself. What is the history of Leningradsky Administrative District?
The district was drawn in 1947. Its streets carry the fabric of old Königsberg, whose ramparts, gates, and towers were folded into the new borough when Kaliningrad took its name, so the Sackheim Gate and the Rossgarten Gate still mark the former ring wall. War flattened much around them.
Yet Königsberg Cathedral was rebuilt over the following decades, and the district keeps a denser weave of surviving Prussian stone than the rest of Kaliningrad.
