About Oktyabrsky Administrative District

Where to stay in Oktyabrsky Administrative District

Where you base yourself shapes the visit — here's the character of each area.

This is a leafy residential quarter of Kaliningrad, not a hotel strip. Beds are thin. Its heart is Amalienau, the old garden suburb whose villas line Kashtanovaya alley and Kutuzov street, so most visitors book rooms in central Kaliningrad and ride out to walk these streets.

Stay for the villa architecture and the quiet. Kashtanovaya alley sets the tone.

About Oktyabrsky Administrative District

What are the main landmarks in Oktyabrsky Administrative District?

Churches anchor the district's landmarks. Juditten Church is the oldest, a medieval building that outlived the wars around it, while Ratshof Church and the ruin of Saint Adalbert Church mark newer parishes across the quarter. Two ring forts survive here.

Fort V-a and Fort VI stand among the outer defences of Kaliningrad, and inside Amalienau the Villa Schmidt and the Academy of Arts hold the villa street of Kashtanovaya alley together. The Mikhail Kutuzov monument closes the set.

What is the history of Oktyabrsky Administrative District?

Juditten Church carries the deepest history here, a medieval parish that stood long before the surrounding streets. Around it the quarter belonged to Königsberg, and the garden suburb of Amalienau rose as a planned estate of villas along Kashtanovaya alley and Borodinskaya street. Then the name changed.

After the war Königsberg became Kaliningrad, the ruined Saint Adalbert Church was left standing, and the villa district passed into the Oktyabrsky Administrative District that governs it now.

Where is Oktyabrsky Administrative District?

Oktyabrsky Administrative District is a low-lying quarter of Kaliningrad, its villa streets spreading through Amalienau around Kashtanovaya alley and Juditten Church.
