Lazarevsky City District, Sochi — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Lazarevsky City District is the largest of Sochi's four city districts, a coastal chain of resort settlements running from Dagomys to Magri.

About Lazarevsky City District

Where to stay in Lazarevsky City District

The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.

Lazarevskoye carries the district's beach infrastructure, and most rooms sit there or in Dagomys, the largest of the coastal settlements. Loo draws families toward its waterpark. Vardane and Chemitokvadzhe are plain seaside villages with small guesthouses, while Uch-Dere sits up on its hill away from the water among surviving pre-revolutionary buildings. Yakornaya Shchel is tiny, yet the express trains stop.

Anyone wanting the centre of Sochi within easy reach picks the Dagomys end; Magri, at the far edge before Tuapse, is the quietest of them.

About Lazarevsky City District

What are the main landmarks in Lazarevsky City District?

The Volkonsky dolmen is the headline stop, a chamber hewn from a single rock outcrop near Volkonka, where ruins of a medieval fortress also survive. Loo keeps the best-preserved medieval temple ruins on this coast, plus the largest waterpark in Sochi. Ashe hides two waterfalls upstream.

A cascade called the Dagomys Troughs lies nine kilometres up the gorge above Dagomys, the valley of 33 waterfalls opens behind Golovinka, and Mamedovo gorge strings together falls, a dolmen and standing menhirs. Planted walks make the Dendrological Park the quieter option. Golovinka adds a tulip tree and the Lenin monument.

What is the history of Lazarevsky City District?

Russian army forts went up along this coast between 1837 and 1839, and Golovinka held one of the four. Fragments of another survive at Lazarevskoye, beside the monument to the poet Odoevsky, who died here. An Orthodox church followed early in the twentieth century.

Uch-Dere and the dacha belt came later. Golubev built at Golubaya Dacha and gave the settlement its name, two more stand at Sovetkvadzhe, and the psychiatrist Bekhterev kept a house at Vishnyovka that the Burevestnik grounds still enclose. The district lines themselves were drawn in 1961.

Where is Lazarevsky City District?

The Black Sea edges the whole district. Wooded ridges climb inland from the shore toward the Republic of Adygea, with Tuapsinsky District beyond the north-western end.
