Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Krasnaya Polyana is a winter ski resort in the mountains of Sochi, inland from the Black Sea below Achishkho.
About Krasnaya Polyana

Where to stay in Krasnaya Polyana
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
The Храм святого Харалампия marks the older end. Guest houses stand along the valley floor around it, while the resort lodging climbs the slopes toward Achishkho where the ski ground opens above the settlement. Around the Краснополянская школа искусств the lanes stay quieter.
Guests who came for the mountain side of the Adlersky City District rather than the Sochi shore find Krasnaya Polyana workable for both.
About Krasnaya Polyana
What are the main landmarks in Krasnaya Polyana?
The dolmens came before the skis. Stone chambers of the Dolmens at the foot of Achishkho stand above the valley, older than anything built in Krasnaya Polyana, and the broken walls listed as Бешенка-I remain from a fortress on the same heights. Two churches anchor the valley centre.
The Храм святого Харалампия and the church Zinaida of Tarse serve the settlement, and the Краснополянская школа искусств gives the valley an arts school of its own.
What is the history of Krasnaya Polyana?
The settlement dates from 1869. Its slopes were worked far earlier by the builders who raised the Dolmens at the foot of Achishkho, and the walls remembered as Бешенка-I belonged to a fortress guarding the same mountain approach. The Братская могила красноармейцев holds soldiers of the 33rd NKVD motor rifle regiment who died on a combat assignment in these mountains.
Administration of the mountain settlement runs through the Krasnopolyansky Settlement Okrug to the Adlersky City District of Sochi.
Where is Krasnaya Polyana?
Krasnaya Polyana lies some 40 km inland from the Black Sea coast at Sochi, in a mountain valley under Achishkho inside Krasnodar Krai.
