About Kirovski district
What are the main landmarks in Kirovski district?
The Ural State Technical University dominates Kirovski, its Main Building fronting a broad avenue lined with monuments. A memorial marks students and staff of the Ural Polytechnic Institute who died in the Great Patriotic War. The Monument to Sergey Kirov, for whom the district is named, stands nearby.
Faith and stone answer the campus. The Church Of Michael The Archangel serves the parish, while out east the Shartash Stone Tents Rocks rise as weathered granite tors that geologists and hikers have visited for well over a century.
What is the history of Kirovski district?
Kirovski was carved out as a district of Yekaterinburg in 1943, at the height of the Great Patriotic War, when the city absorbed evacuated industry and swelling student numbers. It took its name from the Soviet leader Sergey Kirov. Growth followed the campus.
The Ural State Technical University, then the Ural Polytechnic Institute, drew engineers, chemists, and physicists whose institutes fanned out across the new borough and fixed its identity as the schooling ground of the wider Urals region. The war never left the streets. A memorial to the institute's fallen students and staff still holds the campus square.
Where is Kirovski district?
Kirovski spreads across roughly 45 square kilometres on the eastern side of Yekaterinburg, reaching from the central seam near Malysheva street 134 out to the granite Shartash Stone Tents Rocks and the pine woods that surround Lake Shartash.
