Hyllie, Malmö — Area Guide & Where to Stay

Hyllie is a district on the south-western edge of Malmö, set within Malmö kommun in south-western Sweden.

About Hyllie

Where to stay in Hyllie

Where you base yourself shapes the visit — here's the character of each area.

Beds here sit on the modern south-western side. Hyllie keeps newer streets around Sankt Mikaels kyrka with open ground toward Bunkeflo kyrka, so basing in this part of Malmö suits a calmer outer stay away from the crowded centre. The old core of Malmö lies a ride to the north-east.

About Hyllie

What are the main landmarks in Hyllie?

Two parish churches anchor the district. Sankt Mikaels kyrka stands among the newer blocks of Hyllie, while Bunkeflo kyrka holds the older churchyard toward the former Limhamn-Bunkeflo line. Between them the flat south-western ground of Malmö opens out.

For a visitor the markers are quieter here than in the old core, but the church towers and the wide plain give this part of Malmö kommun its own bearing.

What is the history of Hyllie?

Hyllie began as parish land on the plain outside Malmö, the country ground that the city later reached as it pushed south-west. Bunkeflo kyrka kept watch over the older settlement while the modern district rose around Sankt Mikaels kyrka. Boundaries shifted.

In 2013 the city district of Hyllie merged with Limhamn-Bunkeflo to form the larger administrative area of Väster, folding this corner of Malmö kommun into a wider south-western unit.

Where is Hyllie?

The district holds the south-western flank. Hyllie spreads across the flat outer ground of Malmö, away from the old core, with Sankt Mikaels kyrka standing among its blocks and the parish church of Bunkeflo kyrka marking the edge toward the former Limhamn-Bunkeflo ground. The whole area sits inside Malmö kommun, in south-western Sweden.
