Slottsstaden is a residential quarter in the central part of Malmö, within Malmö kommun in south-western Sweden.
About Slottsstaden

Where to stay in Slottsstaden
The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
Beds sit close to the castle ground. Slottsstaden keeps quiet residential streets within reach of Malmöhus and its museums, so basing here puts the central-western quarter at the door and the old core of Malmö a short walk on. For a seafront feel just west instead, Ribersborg works just as well.

About Slottsstaden
What are the main landmarks in Slottsstaden?
The castle anchors the district. Malmöhus holds the eastern edge as fortress ground, with Malmö konstmuseum and Malmö museum gathered inside its walls, while Sankt Johannes kyrka and Sankt Andreas kyrka mark church corners among the inner blocks. Down toward the water the Fiskehoddorna fishing huts and the Museispårvägen Malmö tram line add their own draw.
The pull, for a visitor, runs from the castle out across this reach of Malmö.
What is the history of Slottsstaden?
Slottsstaden takes its name and bearing from the castle ground of Malmöhus on its eastern edge. As Malmö laid out housing west of the old fortress and its museum quarter, this stretch filled with villas and apartment blocks, and over the years the streets hardened into a settled central quarter rather than open park. It grew with care.
The central-western reach of Malmö became Slottsstaden, a kommun district close to Ribersborg.
Where is Slottsstaden?
The quarter holds the centre-west. Slottsstaden occupies that inner ground of Malmö, set between the seafront stretch of Ribersborg out to the west and the old core of Gamla Staden over to the east, while Södervärn reaches away toward the south-east of the city. The whole district sits inside Malmö kommun, in south-western Sweden.
