Within the borough of Västra Innerstaden, the seaward ground filled with villas and waterside walks beside swimming grounds such as Simhallsbadet, Malmö, and over the years the strip settled into a green seafront quarter rather than open coast. It opened to the water.
The western edge of Malmö became Ribersborg, a kommun district close to Slottsstaden.
