About SkytteholmWhere to stay in Skytteholm
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Skytteholm sits at the heart of Solna's south. Its streets carry homes, offices and the everyday business of southern Solna more than dedicated hotel rows, so many visitors base themselves around the central blocks of Solna kommun here, with the boundary of Sundbyberg a few steps off and Löftets kyrka close at hand. The location is the strength.
Choose it for a practical foothold in Stockholm County, midway between Stockholm and the parkland of eastern Sweden, beside the neighbouring Huvudsta.
About Skytteholm
What are the main landmarks in Skytteholm?
Löftets kyrka serves the homes of southern Solna nearby, while just over the boundary Sundbybergs kyrka marks the adjoining town. Down toward the water the preserved schooner Skonerten Constantia recalls the maritime working past of this edge of Solna kommun, and Alby kyrka lies within the wider reach of Stockholm County. The churches set the bearings.
Rather than one tower, a ring of small parish churches and a moored vessel define this central residential corner of eastern Sweden.
What is the history of Skytteholm?
Open land lay here first. The southern part of Solna held fields and a country property before the town drew close, and through the twentieth century the streets filled as Solna kommun built up to the edge of Sundbyberg. Growth pressed in from two towns at once.
The district became a central residential and working quarter of Stockholm County, its bearings fixed by Löftets kyrka and Sundbybergs kyrka as the suburban expansion of eastern Sweden joined Solna to its neighbour.
Where is Skytteholm?
Skytteholm occupies the southern side of Solna, a built-up stretch where Solna kommun meets the boundary with Sundbyberg and runs on toward the water that divides this part of Stockholm County from Stockholm. The ground is largely level. Löftets kyrka stands within reach, and the district sits between the central streets of Solna and the neighbouring Huvudsta to the west in eastern Sweden.
