About Ulriksdal

Where to stay in Ulriksdal

Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.

Ulriksdal is a palace park, not a hotel quarter. Its lawns and avenues fill the northern side of Solna around Ulriksdals slott rather than hotel rows, so most visitors take a room nearer the centre of Solna or in Stockholm and come here for the grounds and the old inn, Ulriksdals Värdshus. The park draws the day visitor.

Choose a base in Stockholm County and walk into the green of eastern Sweden here, with the neighbouring Bergshamra and the Statarmuseet, Överjärva gård close by.

About Ulriksdal

What are the main landmarks in Ulriksdal?

Ulriksdals slott commands the bay, a royal palace at the heart of this northern reach of Solna. Around it the grounds gather a remarkable cluster: the baroque court theatre Ulriksdals slottsteater Confidencen, the Orangerimuseet in the old orangery, the Ulriksdals slottskapell among the trees, and the Museet för drottning Kristinas kröningsekipage with its royal coronation carriage. An old inn keeps the gate.

Ulriksdals Värdshus has fed travellers here for generations within Solna kommun. This district stretches into working land too. Out on the old estate the Statarmuseet, Överjärva gård records the lives of farm labourers, while Bergshamra kyrka serves the neighbouring quarter and Bergshamra IP gives the area its sports ground in Stockholm County.

The palace gathers it all. Few corners of eastern Sweden hold a slott, a theatre, an orangery and a farm museum within one park.

What is the history of Ulriksdal?

Ulriksdal began as a great estate. A manor by the bay was rebuilt into the royal palace of Ulriksdals slott in the seventeenth century, and the crown laid out the surrounding park on the northern side of Solna over the generations that followed. Court life shaped the grounds.

The baroque stage of Ulriksdals slottsteater Confidencen was raised among them, while the farm recorded at the Statarmuseet, Överjärva gård worked the land, and the park held its place in Solna kommun and Stockholm County through the suburban growth of eastern Sweden.

Where is Ulriksdal?

Ulriksdal lies on the northern side of Solna, where the parkland of Solna kommun runs down to a bay and the ground opens into lawns, woods and avenues rather than streets, set within this part of Stockholm County north of Stockholm. The water frames the palace grounds. Ulriksdals slott stands by the shore here, and the district reaches toward Bergshamra and links south to the green of Haga in eastern Sweden.
